Hi, my name's Hayden.
I grew up with a dog by my side from when I was 15. Every single time I came home, didn't matter if I'd been gone an hour or a week, she was at the door. Tail going crazy. Jumping up. Like it was the best moment of her entire day.
Honestly, it was one of the best parts of mine too.
That bond is hard to put into words unless you've lived it.
Then I left home and spent years travelling across Asia.
And I started seeing something I couldn't unsee.
One afternoon in Bali it was about 40 degrees. The kind of heat where the air shakes. I walked down a back alley and saw a small black dog, alone, moving slowly from bin to bin, trying to find anything she could eat just to survive another day.
She wasn't barking. She wasn't running. She was just surviving.
It was her eyes that got me. Lost. Empty. Like she had forgotten what it felt like to be safe.
I thought about my dog back home. Warm bed. Full bowl. Someone who lit up every time she walked through the door.
These dogs want exactly the same thing. They're just waiting for it.
That was the moment everything changed for me.
